I am a lesbian and I want to go on holiday… where do I go? Well, once you have decided what kind of holiday you want, who you are going with, what you want to see and what you want to do, you then have to decide where to go. Where in the world should I visit and where should I avoid like the plague?
Let us start with places to avoid like the plague. The general rule of thumb would have to be anywhere renowned for religious fervour so it may be advisable to give certain US states and other countries a respectfully wide berth. Make that a chasm… First to pop into one’s mind would have to be notoriously gay unfriendly nations. Iran or Saudi Arabia, anyone? No, those are not good places for a woman to vacation, let alone a lesbian fun-lover out to spend some hard earned money. Even somewhere as decadent as Dubai is a no-no… and despite the fact that the US has led the freedom of sexual preferences revolution, there are some states right here that you would also be wise to leave off your itinerary. Actually, that is not strictly true – most large cities have some lesbian friendly activities going on but you may want to swerve around rural Utah or Amish Pennsylvania, for example.
Ah, I hear you say, but how about places to go? Well, have a look online for package holidays designed for the intrepid lesbian traveller and you will find resorts in places as far flung and exciting as Glasgow, Curacao, Fire Island, Mykonos and Amsterdam. If you don’t want a packaged holiday or a resort vacation but want to travel freely, check out the facilities for any place you fancy online and you will very probably find lesbian friendly hotels and hostels, clubs and bars. Add to that list pretty much every major city and town in the western world then go book those flights!
